Professional recognition with the Swiss Red Cross (SRK)

Swiss recognition bodies and professional qualification procedures.

Role of the SRK

The Swiss Red Cross (SRK) recognizes foreign qualifications for numerous regulated healthcare professions in Switzerland. The procedure begins with a compulsory and free PreCheck and may lead to direct recognition or to compensatory measures where substantial differences are identified.

Depending on the profession, recognized qualifications are also entered in the national healthcare registers GesReg / NAREG. Cantonal requirements for professional practice may apply in addition to recognition.

Main professions and areas

The SRK is the recognition authority for a broad range of regulated healthcare professions, including in particular:

  • Nursing
  • Physiotherapy
  • Midwifery
  • Occupational therapy
  • Nutrition and dietetics
  • Medical radiology
  • Biomedical analysis
  • Optometry
  • Emergency medical services and other regulated healthcare professions

The exact recognition route and any additional cantonal requirements depend on the profession and the intended activity.
