Evaluation of foreign university diplomas by Swiss ENIC

Swiss recognition bodies and professional qualification procedures.

Role of Swiss ENIC

Swiss ENIC is the Swiss information centre for questions concerning foreign higher-education qualifications. For foreign university degrees leading to non-regulated professions, it can issue a level confirmation when a potential employer explicitly requests an evaluation.

A Swiss ENIC level confirmation is not a formal professional recognition and is not an equivalence decision. It supplements an application dossier and has no legal effect on the foreign degree or academic title.

Main cases

Swiss ENIC is relevant particularly where:

  • The qualification is a foreign university degree
  • The intended profession in Switzerland is not regulated
  • A potential employer explicitly requests a level confirmation
  • The applicant needs an official classification of the degree level for recruitment purposes

Swiss ENIC does not replace the competent recognition authority for regulated professions. It also does not provide a general equivalence certificate for every foreign diploma.
